Mobile-first site for a boutique botel

Misneach

UX, UI

Misneach is a new boutique hotel in Dublin city.

Challenge

My task was to design a new website for the hotel, with a focus on optimising the booking flow on mobile.

Research

I completed a couple of different strands of research. First, a competitive analysis of best in class local and international hotel sites, as well as industry-relevant design leaders such as Airbnb. Then, depth interviews and usability tests on some some of these sites to learn about users' expectations and pain points when using these sites. I then analysed this info by naturally grouping feedback in an affinity diagram.

To optimise the customer experience I completed some customer journey mapping to better understand their expectations.

Visual design

The word mark is set in New Forest, giving a hint of art nouveau elegance, complemented by Söhne and Untitled Sans for a contemporary edge. The colour palette is derived from the texture of late 19th century Dublin architecture, featuring red brick, slate grey and copper green.

Outcome

This project was completed as my final project for the Professional Diploma in UX Design at the UX Design Institute. The diploma was a great opportunity to formalise a number of strands of experience that I had from working on client jobs in Huskies. I was able to look at common sense approaches that I had adopted and give them academic rigour and greater procedural consistency.
